Tales from the Beast Quarter

Week 2: Yeah, well, I wasn't exactly planning on working in the Beast Quarter, but I wasn't planning on running outta tuition before I'd finished my degree, either. Didn't figure on waiting tables, but my student loans aren't gonna pay themselves – plus, it's on the bus line, and I can't really afford a car right now…

Week 7: Really, it's not a bad part of town, whatever people say. I've been in the bad parts going to my old roommate's shows; people just figure "old and run-down" equals "rampant urban decay." Folks here are nice, just…kinda strange, y'know? Lady on the bus came up and sniffed me right in the armpit the other day.

…yeah, I guess that is public transit for you.

Week 13: Hmm? Oh, the job's going alright, but there's some…complications. No, nothing seri—nothing catastrophic, but…y'know how you spend long enough in a place and it kinda starts to rub off on you? …It's not just me, is it?

You okay, man? You smell kinda confused…

Week 19: So…yeah. For a while there it'd wear off after I clocked out, but…not so much, anymore. I dunno, maybe it was when I started thinking of my d—my apartment as a "den." That old hag upstairs keeps complaining to the landlord about "the smell," but I don't even go up there…honestly, I've been thinking about maybe looking for a place closer to work…?

Been toying with this setting in my head for a couple years now, but it didn't really start taking shape on me 'til recently, finally crystalizing when I settled on the character designs – really enjoyed finally getting to do a proper inked piece with it =^_^= There's a story concept brewing here, obviously, but it'll be a bit yet before we get to it…

(The lady who first got me to get up on stage and perform with her at the local open-mic night had just passed recently. I don't usually look at "normal" people through a furry lens, but she looked exactly like the kind of person who'd be a hedgehog in a Beatrix Potter story, only post-hippie and into Tolkien and Zeppelin – so I couldn't help but put her on a poster here ;) Missing you already, ma'am - until we meet again…)
